My Role: UX Lead for video editor platform
Overview
The goal of this project was to solve discoverability & usability issues for Creator Studio’s editor platform and migrate critical features from the old version of Creator Studio.
Challenges
- Understanding old user mental models from the “classic” experience that carry over to the new one
- Designing a framework scalable for many new features
- Making features discoverable despite various user journeys
Solution shown below
Contextual editing framework
I designed a new framework that surfaced editing features in context to user workflows. The “old editor” could only be accessed after a user published content and lived in a separate, isolated page. This was annoying and undiscoverable. The new “contextual editor” can now be surfaced in any work flow.
Editing in the Upload Flow
The uploads flow is core to Creator Studio. I designed easy entry points for the editing features where users expected to find them. This increased discoverability of all migrated features.
Info Cards
Case Study 1
I redesigned and launched Info Cards, a commonly used tool that allows creators to apply interactive links on top of their videos.
End screens
Case Study 2
I redesigned and launched End Screens, another commonly used tool that allows creators to apply interactive elements to the last 20 seconds of their video.
